Shea-Porter best candidate for veterans

Seacoast Online

To the Editor:

In Washington, D.C., supporting our military service veterans takes sincere commitment and tenacity and no one knows that better than Carol Shea-Porter, a former military spouse and daughter of a World War II veteran, who has consistently worked for legislation that would support our men and women in uniform.

In fact, her efforts have recently been recognized by the Veterans and Military Families for Progress (VMFP) organization. According to VMFP, "Ms. Shea-Porter’s strong commitment to the issues that are critical to veterans, those serving now, and their families is unsurpassed."

Contrast that with Frank Guinta's voting record in Congress. He voted against the Omnibus Appropriations bill this year which provided $4.7 billion in medical care funding for veterans and provided funds to hire 770 VA disability claims processors to tackle the claims backlog. Carol knows that the VA needs to meet its obligations to our service members, while Frank Guinta calls this spending "more federal bloat and debt." Are Guinta's words the message we want to send to our service members and their families who have sacrificed so much? When you vote on Nov. 8th, know that casting a ballot for Carol Shea-Porter is a show of support for our veterans, our uniformed military service members, and their families.
